Four Marks out of Hants Cup after home defeat

Hampshire Intermediate Cup 4th Round
Four Marks FC 1-2 Hayling United FC

Andrew King (15) pen

This was Four Marks first game since the weather took the game against AFC Wolversdene two weeks ago. Hayling United are flying high in the Combination Division 1 so would be a tough test for the up and coming Marks team.

Hayling started much the brighter team taking the game to Marks, within the first 3 minutes they created a good goal scoring opportunity which was scuffed wide. Marks struggled to get into the game for the first 5 minutes but settled down and started to cause the Hayling back line some problems. On the 15th minute Chapman crossed the ball from the right wing for Mike Heffernan, who was bundled over for a penalty. King stepped up and calmly slotted the into the keepers bottom right hand corner.

The remainder of the half was an even affair with neither team creating a lot in front of gaol. Mark Heffernan and Chapman were getting more joy down the wings with Hazel and Matt Lucas matching the Hayling midfield.

In the second half Hayling created more of the chances, Scudder clearing off the line from a corner. Harris and Dan Lucas were marshalling the back line well. Fifteen minutes into the half, Hayling won a corner, from the corner the ball was floated over and was fumbled into the back of the net. After this the game became open with both teams looking for the winning goal. Marks were trying to play football but the pitch was not allowing the ball to move freely.

In the 89th minute Marks went on the attack, after a mistake Hayling counter attacked and managed to slide the ball in the back of the Marks net. A minute later referee Stuart King blew the final whistle. This was a disappointing end to a cup game that would have been won if minor errors were not made.
