Marks stage comeback to thrash M&T FC
Hampshire League 2004 Cup 1st Round
Michelmarsh & Timsbury FC 3 - 7 Four Marks FC
Michael Bridges
James Hammond (2)
Andrew King (3)
Andrew Ford
This was Marks first encounter in the Hampshire League (2004) league cup and it nearly ended in disaster. After Marks beat Timsbury 4 – 0 at home in the league they were expecting them to come out all guns blazing.
Four Marks started this game very slowly and let Timsbury dictate the pace. Marks did break away and won a free kick on the edge of the Timsbury 18 yard box. Bridges stepped up and slotted the ball into the back of the net. After this Timsbury took the game to Marks and scored two goals to finish the half 2 – 1.
The second half started more promising for Marks but they still conceded a goal to put Timsbury 3 – 1 up. This sparked off a Marks revival. Hammond scored Marks’ second then popped up with a diving header to equaliser. Then King who was involved in most things that Four Marks created single handed took Timsbury apart with three goals in quick succession. During this time Timsbury had three players dismissed from the field. King, who work hard in the second half, was replaced for Ford and with is first touch put the ball into the back of the net to make the final score Michelmarsh & Timsbury 3 Four Marks 7.
This was a slow start for Four Marks but great team spirt and patients got them through to the ¼ finals of the League Cup. Next week will be a tough league game away to Lyndhurst and Marks will need to make sure they are ready and perform for the whole 90 minutes.
