MATCH ABANDONED AFTER 61 MINUTES, DUE TO WATERLOGGED PITCH.

Hampshire League
Four Marks FC 2-0 AFC Wolversdene

Andrew King
Michael Bridges

On a very wet and windy afternoon, AFC Wolversdene made the journey from Andover to Hampshire League leaders Four Marks.

Marks started the stronger on the soggy pitch and took advantage of AFC’s disorganisation. On the 6th minute Matt Lucas won the ball in the middle of the pitch, played the ball to Eife who slid in Bridges down the right wing, when Bridges ran passed the AFC left back, he was taken down just out side the box. Andrew King stepped up to take the free kick and curl the ball passed the goalkeepers dive and into the top right hand corner of the goal.

AFC tried to break on the counter attack, but this was to no avail. Marks were now creating chance after chance from open play and corners, with Bridges, Michael Heffernan and Chapman having lots of joy in the final third. After 23 minutes Bridges once again beat two AFC players and with a cross shot, wrong footed the goalkeeper who parried the ball into the back of the net. Marks did score a third through Andrew King when he followed in a shot from Dan Hazel that was mishandled by the keeper and put the ball into the roof of the net. The linesman disallowed the goal for off side to the Marks dismay. As the half finished the weather started to get worse and the pitch was cutting up.

In the second half the pitch was holding water and it was becoming hard for either team to play football as the ball was not moving for the amount of puddles. Neither team could gain any control as the pitch was causing players to make mistakes due to passes going stray and not being able to keep their feet. After 61 minutes the referee had no other option but to call the game off.
